Weymouth UK: Custom House Quay, waterfront, Weymouth
 Custom House Quay used to have trains running along it. These stopped in 1994, but the railway lines remain. The Custom House itself is a red brick Georgian building and was first built so that a local merchant could keep an eye on his vessels and merchandise from the comfort of his own home.It became the Custom House in the early 1900s right up to 1985, when it became the office for the Harbour Master. An old warehouse here is now Sharkys Indoor Play Area - a popular place for families with little ones, on wet days. Most of the other warehouses have been similarly put to other uses. The fish market here was built in 1855 to allow local fishermen to sell their catch more easily and is still a great place to catch fresh fish! MORE... |
